You can be assured that you will receive personal training from John, or one of the staff trainers personally trained by him, to supply you with the necessary skills to become both an excellent instructor and run a successful position within what is now East Anglia's and one of the UK's largest privately owned driving schools.

Since 1988 John Benson / Benson School of Motoring have trained over 1,000 insructors

Below are just some of the people who have been trained by John Benson / Benson School of Motoring and they are now running their own driving schools.

Kevin Mutlow used to work for John Benson from an early age within another business. As he got older, he approached John to train him to become a driving instructor. John found him a position of work from the Bishops Stortford office of the British School of Motoring where John was assistant manager. Kevin left BSM and started his own driving school in about 1992.

John Hughes came to Benson School of Motoring in about 1996. He had trained with BSM but they couldn’t offer him a job. He was only part trained at the time and Benson School of Motoring finished his training until he qualified. He later left and started work for the AA driving School before he eventually started running Braintree School of Motoring now renamed BDA.

Ken Benson-Clarke

Ken Benson-Clarke is John’s older brother. Ken first trained to become an instructor in the late 70’s or early 80’s but failed the examination. John successfully re-trained him in about 1991 and he worked for John within the British School of Motoring (BSM) before his position was terminated and Ken left to start his own company.

Greg Morgan started training and working for Benson School of Motoring in 1999. He had part trained himself to become an instructor but wanted help to pass his final two instructor exams.

Julie Richards

Julie Richards from Bishops Stortford was trained by John and worked for Benson School of Motoring from about 1995. She started as a trainee before fully qualifying and shortly after left to start her own driving school in about 1997

John Hounsom was trained by and worked for the Benson School of Motoring until leaving and starting his own driving school Chelmsford School of Motoring

Ralph Reed was trained by John Benson at BSM from about 1992. When John left to start Benson School of Motoring Ralph joined him and eventually Ralph became his staff trainer. He left John in about 1994 and started his own driving school.

Eric Shirley trained and worked within Benson School of Motoring from about 2001 before starting his own driving school

Benson School of Motoring trained Geoff Calver from around 1996. He left to start his own driving school ASM in Chelmsford around 1999.
